Review & Giveaway: DANCING WITH THE DEVIL by Misty Evans

Update – Congratulations to Emmy B., the winner of Misty’s giveaway! Thanks to all who participated and Happy New Year!

With 2012 coming to an end and the New Year approaching I thought we would celebrate by offering our first book giveaway! Misty Evans is giving away a book from her Witches Anonymous series to one lucky reader (winner’s choice).

If you haven’t ready Misty’s books, you are missing out.  She writes such great stories and is able to carry her writing across different genres. She has everything from romantic suspense to urban fantasy to paranormal romance. I was not a fan of paranormal or fantasy in the past but after reading her romantic suspense books I just had to try out more of her works, including these new romance genres. I am so glad I did.  You will see several books by Misty on my blog because I just can’t get enough of her writing.

Dancing with the Devil is the latest book from the Witches Anonymous Series.

Official Summary:

One step forward…

Ex-witch Amy Atwood has never wanted anyone the way she wants Lucifer. As she tackles Step 5 of Witches Anonymous—atoning for the sins she committed as his right-hand witch—she may actually land him and the magic-free life she desires.

Two steps back…

But when an ancient curse is revealed, a heavenly force determined to remove Lucifer from her life traps Amy between giving into her love for him and saving the souls of her family and friends.

Will this be the end for Amy and Lucifer?

As the war between good and evil reaches a tipping point, Amy must rely on the devil she knows—and can’t resist—to break the curse and help her redeem the souls she’s damned to spend eternity in Hell. Souls Lucifer has no intention of giving up.

My Review:

To start off, I wasn’t so sure about the Witches Anonymous books because I am a Christian and wasn’t sure how I felt about the Devil being one of the main characters (the hero!) and all the Bible references. However, Misty caused me to look up different things in the Bible just to see what was true and what was fictional, so I thought that was a win and was excited to see the similarities and differences. They actually generated good conversation with my husband, too. So, I then read them all!

Dancing with the Devil was my favorite book in the Witches Anonymous series. Mainly because Amy and Lucifer (Luc for short) were finally together in it the way I wanted them to be. Even though this is a fun, fantasy series, Misty packs so much emotion in her characters including a whole lot of love this time around. I enjoyed all the Biblical characters and references in these books (Tree of Good and Evil, Angels, etc).

In this story, as is typical, Amy tries so hard to be good and not use magic. However, she realizes that she and Luc really are meant to be together and does whatever it takes (even use magic) to let love win out over anything else.  Amy isn’t always sure who she can trust with different characters coming in and out of her life.  In this one we are introduced to Zayfeer who was quite a trip. One minute I loved him, the next minute I really disliked him. I am still not quite sure how I feel about him in the end, but that’s okay, because it works. Amy’s friends tried helping her out of the situations she was getting into and usually were able to a little in past books, but this time it was all on Amy to figure things out. She learned a lot about herself and her family in this book, which I thought was pretty cool.

I don’t want to give much away in the review because, well, that would ruin the story. Misty does a great job with the fantasy part of the book and she carries you through it so easily. You don’t have time to stop and think about what is going on because you are too excited to find out what is coming next.  I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to this story. Check out her books at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Smashwords!

  1. Spending time with friends and listening to the Live Karaoke Band in Champaign. After reading this review I am excited to read this series. I like the idea of mixing a little Biblical history with fiction. It will make me think!

  2. I love the WA books. Misty hits just the right notes of fun. And Amy and Luc are such a great couple. I’ve been on Luc’s team since the first WA book.

We don’t have anything planned for New Year’s Eve. But during the day, I’m meeting with writer friends for a long lunch, and I’m looking forward to that.
