My first book from Adrienne Giordano, Man Law, was a hit for me. I quickly wanted to find all the other books she had published and read them right away. Her writing is so easy to read and I love all the “thoughts” her characters had in this book. I love the witty dialogue that also had me laughing at times.
Vic is a Security Consultant for Taylor Security and handles the government contracts. In one of his last missions he sort of ticked off a sheikh and that sheikh is ready for payback. This causes a little problem with him and those around him that he loves (even if it doesn’t want to admit his feelings right away).
Vic is a character so different than others I have read about. He does everything on high speed and even though he seems to be a read-fire-aim type guy he does usually get the job done. That is in his work life. His personal life is another story. Luckily he has Gina to help him out with that. I thought Gina was the perfect match for Vic. She is small but mighty. She had to be in order to survive losing her husband in a tragic accident and raising three kids on her own. She is also the sister of Michael Taylor, owner of Taylor Security and close friend of Vic. She is the person that caused Vic to violate one of his man laws. I think she handles Vic very well and is able to make him feel things he doesn’t want.
Some of my favorite scenes include most of the ones where Gina is trying to make Vic talk about his feelings, the scene with Vic and his aunt, and the ending scene with Vic and Lily. Adrienne does an excellent job of balancing the suspense and romance in the book. The few intimate scenes were written in a fun way that fit the characters and were true to the story. She doesn’t just put them in there for the sake of adding them. They add to the story and keep it moving along. I enjoyed following the story line of this book and just when they had one thing under control something else happened. It was a hard book to put down which is probably why I finished it pretty quickly.
While this is the second book in the Private Protectors series, it was the first one I read. I would suggest that anyone starting off with the PP series begin with Risking Trust.
