Review: A LOT LIKE LOVE by Julie James

If you are looking for a contemporary romance read with a touch of suspense, I highly recommend you try Julie James and her FBI/US Attorney Series. All of her books are so fun to read with great characters and witty dialogue!  My favorite of the series and one of my all time favorite contemporary romance books is A Lot Like Love. I loved this book. The characters are together for most of the book so you have a lot of great dialogue and depending on how spunky or smart mouthed they might be it is pretty entertaining to read. I love books about FBI agents, especially those going undercover. The wine aspect of the book was very interesting with great descriptions and it has encouraged me to try different wines.

In this story we find Jordan Rhodes in quite the predicament. She is offered a release of her brother, Kyle, from prison in exchange for working with the FBI on an assignment. She loves her brother dearly and agrees, even if she is ticked that the Feds put Kyle in prison in the first place. (You can learn more about that  in About That Night – Book 3). Nick McCall is the FBI agent picked to work with Jordan. From the beginning the story takes off and has you pulled in until the end.

I was impressed with Jordan’s strength and courage with regards to the situation she was placed. Her family has money but she doesn’t act like the spoiled heiress. She is a down to earth wine store owner who wants to make her own way. The love for her brother shows and I was glad to see it play out the way it did. While she was a confident, determined, businesswoman, she also knew how to let go and roll with things that came up.  I enjoyed the playful side of her – especially the hot tub scene. She had quite the power over Nick.

Nick was the typical alpha male. I love those alpha males that become puddy in a strong woman’s hands. There is just something about the heroine taming them that makes it so fascinating to watch. Jordan was definitely able to hold her own against Nick. While he had his typical alpha male moments he was also able to see beyond his own needs/wants. I thought it was great when Jordan tried to get him to tastes different wines and he refused to drink anything “pink.” The romance between Nick and Jordan was written into the story very well. There are some fun intimate scenes that are very appropriate to the story. This book has romance, a touch of suspense, great dialogue, wonderfully developed characters and a great plot that made it hard to put down. I highly recommend A Lot Like Love!

Book Summary:

The FBI wants her cooperation.

As the daughter of a billionaire and the owner of the city’s top wine store, Jordan Rhodes is invited to the most exclusive parties in Chicago. But there’s only one party the FBI wants to crash: the charity fundraiser of a famous restaurateur, who also happens to launder money for the mob. In exchange for her brother’s release from prison, Jordan is going to be there—with a date supplied by the Bureau.

Agent McCall just wants her.

As the top undercover agent in Chicago, Nick McCall has one rule: never get personal. This “date” with Jordan Rhodes is merely an assignment—one they’re both determined to pull off even if they can’t be together for five minutes before the sarcasm and sparks begin to fly. But when Nick’s investigation is compromised, he and Jordan have no choice but to pretend they’re a couple, and what starts out as a simple assignment begins to feel a lot like something more. . .
