Review: ANGEL IN CHAINS by Cynthia Eden

I am a big fan of Cynthia Eden’s Fallen Angels. The idea of a Fallen Angel is so intriguing to me. What would cause an angel to fall? These books are like nothing else I have read. As with all of Cynthia’s books, you are in for a wild ride – the action doesn’t stop! While Sam is my favorite angel so far from Angel Betrayed (Book 2, and you can read my review on Sam’s story here), I was curious about Azrael even in Book 1 (Angel of Darkness). I do recommend you read these books in order, as they will make more sense.

Look for the next book, Avenging Angel coming out May 2013!

Official Summary:

As a fallen Angel of Death, Azrael is cursed to walk the earth alone in search of redemption. One night, as he wanders the streets of New Orleans, he discovers a woman surrounded by panther shifters.  No longer able to contain the anger simmering within, Az summons his dark powers and attacks, determined to protect this innocent human from certain death.

Only Jade Pierce is no delicate flower.  She’s spent years learning to survive and fight the evil forces sent by her ex-lover who refuses to let her go. But after seeing Az in action, she figures she could use a little supernatural help. And so she plans a course of seduction guaranteed to arouse his interest and his angelic passions…

My Review:

I love Cynthia Eden’s Fallen Angels. They are my favorite stories of hers. The angels are so messed up but change so much in these stories. In this story we follow Azrael – a powerful Death Angel who struggles with one of his biggest temptations – Jade who is a human. She is everything he wants and feels. He does everything he can to claim her and to give into those temptations he feels.

At the beginning of the story Az first meets Jade as three members of a powerful panther shifter pack have her cornered in an alley. He steps in to help her because it is the right thing to do. It turns out Jade is being hunted by a powerful hybrid panther shifter (Brandt) who is the alpha of this pack and will stop at nothing to get Jade back. Even if that means he will kill anyone in his path. From there Az gets caught up in protecting Jade from Brandt and falls in love with her along the way (which he doesn’t realize until it is too late of course). We watch how love can make or break Azrael and how it changes his path to getting back into Heaven.

I had mixed feelings about Az in the first two Fallen books but he did start to grow on me in this one. He was just so messed up, broken, and sometimes confused so he wasn’t easy to get close to. Jade helped him through this and I really liked how strong she was for him. She sure had a lot of spunk and was ready to take on the world if it meant she could save her friends from Brandt’s wrath. As for other characters in the book, I found Sammael to be hilarious as usual. Tanner and Cody were great additions and I hope Tanner and Marna have a story in the future.

Angel In Chains was a really great read. Cynthia is so good at winding together a great story with complicated characters who take an interesting path to get to the end. I think she does a very good job with the intimate scenes she writes and keeps them tasteful and very true to her characters and the story. I also enjoyed all the fast paced action and twists and turns she takes a reader on during this book. If you have read the other Fallen books you will love Angel In Chains. I sure hope there are more Fallen books to come because I can’t seem to get enough of these stories! Check Angel in Chains out at Amazon or Barnes & Noble!

What lengths would you go to in order to save and be with the one you love most?

Cynthia is such a good writer. Once you start reading one of her books, it’s hard to stop.
