Review: FOREVER AND A DAY by Jill Shalvis

With Valentine’s Day tomorrow, I thought I would feature a book and series I just love. It is a contemporary romance and you will definitely fall in love with these books and characters.

I have enjoyed every single Lucky Harbor novel by Jill Shalvis since I read Simply IrresistibleEach one is different than the one before, but you still get the same great dialogue, fun and sometimes snarky characters and sweet romance. Forever and a Day is the sixth book in the series.

Official Summary:

Grace never thought she’d be starting her life over from scratch. Losing everything has landed her in Lucky Harbor, working as a dog walker for overwhelmed ER doctor Josh Scott. But the day his nanny fails to show up, Grace goes from caring for Josh’s lovable mutt to caring for his rambunctious son. Soon Grace is playing house with the sexy single dad…

With so many people depending on him, Josh has no time for anything outside of his clinic and family-until Grace arrives in town. Now this brainy blonde is turning his life inside out and giving a whole new meaning to the phrase “good bedside manner.” Josh and Grace don’t know if what they have can last. But in a town like Lucky Harbor, a lifetime of love starts with just one day…

My Review:

This is the sixth book in the Lucky Harbor Series and I haven’t gotten tired of them yet! I do like reading a series in order and while you could read this book on its own, it is still best as part of the series. It helps you understand the secondary characters better. Jill Shalvis writes very fun, smart, and sexy books. I love how easy and smooth her writing is. All of the Lucky Harbor books have been difficult to put down while reading them. In this story, I enjoyed the real life situations that brought on a variety of emotions you experience as a reader. It is a book that brings you great joy in the dialogue and situations as well as tears over loss and disappointment as well as love and passion.

I always like stories with kids and animals in them and this was no different. Kids and animals have a way of inserting humor in a tense situation. It was evident with Toby and Tank in this book. I enjoyed watching Grace work with Toby, Tank, and Josh’s sister Anna through their life experiences. As with all the Lucky Harbor books, I enjoyed the friendship that is in all of the stories as well. As for the relationship between Josh and Grace, I was glad it was different than the other relationships in the previous books. I was a little worried since I read the last three Lucky Harbor books in a row that they would be too similar as if you are reading the same story with different character names, but not so. Josh and Grace had different difficulties to overcome and watching them do that together was great. I thought their relationship was believable and the intimate scenes were appropriate and fit the story and characters very well.

Some of my favorite scenes in Forever and a Day included the beginning scenes with Grace, Tank and the ocean, the part where Grace was on the phone with her mom and Josh and kept getting them mixed up, and where Ty, Matt, and Josh were looking over the magazine article (targeted to women) in the bar. I wish I could say this was my favorite book, but I can’t. I have liked them all for different reasons and look forward to more Lucky Harbor books. If you like contemporary romance you will love these!

  1. Sounds like a great Valentine’s Day book! For V-Day, I’m making ribs, and I might even make a dessert. My husband brought flowers home yesterday, and they look beautiful. 🙂
