Character Interview & Giveaway: MATING INSTINCT by Katie Reus

Update – Congratulations to June M, the winner of Katie’s giveaway! Thank you to all who participated!

March 5 is release day for Mating Instinct by Katie Reus!  We are thrilled to be part of the Mating Instinct Blog Tour which is hosted by Book Monster Promotions.

Katie’s publisher is giving away a print copy of Mating Instinct to one lucky commenter on this blog, so don’t leave before answering the question near the bottom of the post!  I have asked Katie to bring along Jayce, the hero of Mating Instinct in hopes of getting some questions I have answered.

Interview with Katie and Jayce:

Amy with So Many Reads (SMR): Thank you for joining me today, Katie & Jayce!

Katie: Thanks Amy, for having me and Jayce on your blog today! We’re both happy to be here. 😉

SMR: So, Jayce, tell us about yourself.

Jayce: *Shrugs* I’m the enforcer for the lupine shifters in North America…and got dragged here against my will today.

Katie: *Glares at him before Amy intervenes*

SMR: Okay…what was it about Kat that had you falling for her?

Jayce: Everything. I smelled her and knew she was mine. Then she opened that hot mouth and called me a fucking puppy dog. No one talks to me like that except her.

SMR: Many of us want to know what was going through your mind when you found out Kat was captured?

Jayce: *Remains silent*

Katie: *Clears throat* Yeah, probably not the best question to ask him. Moving on…

SMR: Okay, guess we’ll talk about someone other than Kat. How do you feel about Erin becoming an enforcer?

Jayce: She’s capable and has the skills and in a few decades her power… Let’s just say it’ll be a fucking relief not to run all of North America by myself anymore.

SMR: So, do you think you will ever be able to break up the APL?

Jayce: Yes, but ignorance will always thrive within individuals, no matter the species. So whether they’re calling themselves the APL or another stupid acronym, some people will always hate others because they’re different. That doesn’t mean we can’t contain the problem.

SMR: Good point. Have you ever consider having your own pack?

Jayce: No. I’m not a born Alpha—but I’ll also never submit to one. I’m…a different breed of wolf. Besides, Alphas have too much responsibility. Their entire pack depends on them to make the right decisions and that’s not something I would ever want to deal with.

SMR: Thanks for your time, Jayce. I know you and Katie are very busy and appreciate answering a few questions for me.

Katie: Thank you so much for having us here today, Amy! My publisher is gracious enough to be giving away one print copy of Mating Instinct (US only) to one random commenter on the blog. Here’s a sneak peek of an early scene in the book:

“If you have a need to find sexual release, you won’t search it out with any other male but me.” The words rumbled up from Jayce’s chest in a low growl that sounded more wolf than human.

The statement took Kat so off guard that she dropped her arms from their protective embrace around herself. “Excuse me?”

He leaned in closer until his entire body was a mere inch from hers and his mouth was next to her ear. His hot breath sent a tingle racing through her, searching out every nerve ending until she practically trembled with the need to feel that mouth all over her. “If you go to another male, I will kill him. That human tonight is lucky he’s alive.”

Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.

But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…

December, whose brother is the town sheriff, has every reason to mistrust shifters after one killed her youngest sibling. But the forceful and handsome Liam has gotten under her skin in a way she hadn’t thought possible, and the desire she feels for him is almost too much to bear.

When a radical hate group targets all humans known to sympathize with paranormal beings, December is attacked in her bookstore. Reluctantly, she turns to the only one who can help her: Liam. And he is going to take her to places within herself she never knew existed.

As the beast within struggles to break free, he must learn to be what she needs…

Surviving for centuries, powerful lupine shifter Jayce Kazan managed to stay away from humans until he met Kat Saburova and was consumed by the need to protect her. But while Jayce shared his passion with the human seer, he refused to make her his bondmate—a refusal that caused the end of their relationship.

A year later, an attack that left Kat near death has resulted in another lupine shifter turning her. Furious that he wasn’t the one to save her, Jayce is determined to show Kat that he is the one she should rely on. But the newly turned shifter is still traumatized and worried that she’ll hurt those she loves, unless she can learn to control her inner wolf.

And as Jayce struggles to protect Kat from her own worst instincts and convince her to rekindle their love, the extremists who almost killed her are looking to finish the job…

If I had the ability to shift into a wolf, I would totally have the guts to kick anyone’s ass who has ever been mean to me! Thanks for the interview and for the chance to win!!

    1. Amy

Hi Elizabeth – I would definitely have more confidence and be better at intimidating those that are mean to me or others. Thanks for stopping by today!

  2. jovialvampyre

After I got control over myself I would protect my human family and “kind of show” the idiots in Washington that wolf hunts are should be banned.
    Thank you so much.

    1. Amy

Hi jovialvampyre – I love the protective nature of shifters and would love the ability to protect my family. Thanks for commenting!

  3. Edie Ramer

Wow! Great excerpt! If I had the ability to shift into a wolf, I’d probably hide somewhere until I shifted back. lol

    1. Amy

Edie – I am sure the initial idea that I had the ability to shift would freak me out. I think it is uncontrollable at first for the shifters in Katie’s series at first. They have to learn to control it. Thanks for commenting!

  4. Joanne B

Congrats on the new release. Mating Instinct sounds fantastic. Can’t wait to read it to see more of Kat and Jayce.
If I had the ability to shift into a wolf, I would protect my family and friends from whoever wanted to harm them.

    1. Amy

Thanks for stopping by, Joanne! I think Kat and Jayce’s story is my favorite so far because Jayce and Kat are so independent on their own already.

  5. bn100

    I’d find a male shifter.

    1. Amy

Hi bn100! I had to laugh when you replied with that. I would have to agree with you! Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Taylor Z

    i’d find a mate! duh!
    -Taylor

    1. Amy

Hi Taylor – would this mate you are looking for be a strong alpha shifter or a beta? Thanks for commenting!

  7. Diane

Hopefully I would have someone to help me learn how to cope with the changes and join a pack!

    1. Amy

Diane – I can understand. I can’t imagine what it would be like to all of a sudden shift into a wolf. I would hope a pack would take me in to help me figure it out. 🙂 Thanks for commenting!

  8. joni78

If I had the ability to shift into a wolf I would run all night through the woods and across the farmlands.

    1. Amy

Hi Joni – I bet it would feel so good to run all night long without getting. I would definitely run as fast as I could just for fun. Thanks for stopping by!

  9. Vanessa N.

Congrats on the release. If I could shift I would definitely go for a run in the forest and also be able to protect the people I love.

    mythic021@gmail.com

    1. Amy

Hi Vanessa – Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I would enjoy the run and ability to protect for sure. 🙂

  10. Crystal Scott

I would go running for the joy of it

    Crystal

    1. Amy

Thanks for stopping by, Crystal! Running seems to be a common thing people would do as a shifter – the ability to run fast and anywhere is appealing!

  11. Susan Commeford

Living in the mountains as I do, shifting into a wolf would be a unique way to truly experience the great outdoors!

    1. Amy

Hi Susan – that would be really cool to be able to explore the mountains without fear of other animals. Plus being able to see at night would be cool if exploring at night. Thanks for stopping by!

  12. Sue Ellen Robertson

Congrats dear on the new book. If I had the ability to shift into a wolf, I would love being able to have speed and being able to run whenever I wanted to (and stay skinny, I hate running in the human form) lol. We have woods in our back yard that nobody is allowed to hunt in so it would be perfect and nobody would be able to shoot.

    1. Amy

Hi Sue – I like the idea of staying skinny and being able to run without being out of breathe right away! Thanks for commenting!

  13. samantha blackwell

I think first thing I would do is go to a forest where no people are located and just run and play to feel what it would feel like to be free from what we people always have to deal with at least for one day.

    1. Amy

Hi Samantha – I hadn’t thought about that – getting away from dealing with the everyday stuff. Sounds like a good plan to me. Thanks for commenting!

  14. June M.

I love this series! If I had the ability to shift, I would take off running in the woods and just enjoy feeling free & playful. I would not hunt though…I don’t think I could deal with that.

  15. Katie Reus

Thanks so much for having me here, Amy!

    1. Amy

Thank you, Katie, for bringing Jayce along! 🙂

  16. donnas1

I would go for a run.

    Congrats on the release!

      Thanks for stopping by, Donna!

  17. Janie McGaugh

    I’d probably freak out!

    1. Amy

Yeah, I think I would be a little freaked out, too, Janie! Thanks for commenting.

  18. Olivia Tan (@Leev_7787)

congratulation on the new release ^^

Hi Olivia – Thanks for stopping by!

The joy of heightened since of smell and run fast and free. That is what I would enjoy about being a wolf shifter.
