Update: Congratulations to June and Soncie for winning Misty’s giveaways of a princess tiara keychain and a copy of one of Misty’s books on her back list! Thank you to all who participated.

It’s release day for Misty Evans’ The Blood Code, the 4th book in her Super Agent series!  To celebrate we are interviewing Ryan Smith, the hero from The Blood Code and Misty is giving away some goodies, so don’t leave without checking those out below!

About The Blood Code:

Fifteen years ago, Anya Radzoya fled Russia with her grandmother after the suspicious deaths of her parents, but she can’t escape the royal genes that make her one of Russia’s last living princesses. When President Ivanov blackmails her into returning to Moscow in exchange for her grandmother’s life, Anya discovers he’s planning to unleash a nuclear war. With no one else to turn to, she joins forces with CIA operative Ryan Smith.

Undercover at the nuclear summit, Ryan recruits Anya to find proof Ivanov is resurrecting the Cold War, but he suspects his new asset is a double agent. Anya is determined to rescue her grandmother with or without his help, however, and Ryan finds himself falling for the beautiful princess before he even trusts her.

Trapped inside the Kremlin with a cunning and ruthless opponent, the two must risk their lives and their hearts to save Anya’s grandmother as well as millions of innocent people.

Interview with Ryan Smith:

Amy (with So Many Reads): Thank you so much for the interview, Ryan. I know you are a busy guy.

Ryan Smith (RS): I appreciate you having me here today, Amy. Normally, I don’t give interviews – hazard of being a spy, everything is Top Secret – but Conrad insisted. He thinks highly of you, and he doesn’t like most people, so you must be top shelf.

Amy <with big smiles at the mention of Conrad, but composing myself>: First of all, can you explain to the readers what your job is as Director of CIA Operations in Europe and Asia?

RS: Director is a fancy word for boss. I take care of Conrad’s spies stationed in Europe and Asia. Conrad trains them, hands out their missions, and sends them to me. I make their life hell—um, I mean—I coordinate their undercover operations from there. Occasionally, I bail their asses out when they get into trouble.

Amy: What made you decide to join the CIA?

RS: I have a thing for torture. Just kidding. On the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator, I’m an ESTJ – practical, realistic, decisive. I excel at organizing projects and people. The perfect type of personality to be in charge of crazy-ass spies, and believe me, most of them are certifiable. Otherwise they wouldn’t risk life and limb to gather intelligence. At the time, my decision to join the CIA was more to help my family than gain a job. A CIA recruiter made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and promised to take care of my mom and brother. Our family has some major issues going on, and I couldn’t say no.

Amy: How hard is it at the Farm? How many people actually finish their training at The Farm vs those that don’t make it or drop out?

RS: The Farm is equivalent to a military boot camp in some ways, only with emphasis on undercover operations. We teach recruits what they need to know in order to do a clandestine job in a foreign country. It’s a mix of boot camp training, James Bond lessons, and SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) exercises. Dropout rate is low because Conrad only drafts individuals he knows are all-in to begin with. He’s a former SEAL, so he has a sixth sense about who can stand the heat and who can’t.

Amy: How did you end up in Russia?

RS: I was filling in for Conrad on a training mission…then got blindsided by a beautiful Russian princess. If anyone wants the full story, they’ll have to read The Blood Code.

Amy: How long have you known and how did you meet Conrad Flynn?

RS <eyes Amy suspiciously, suspecting she has a thing for the director>: We met at The Farm a long time ago. I hated him on sight. He’s the opposite of me in every way, except one…we both will do anything to keep our country and loved ones safe. That core belief bonded us in a way nothing else ever could, and we’ve been friends ever since.

Amy: Now for a few personal questions. What is it about Anya that has you risking everything for her?

RS <big grin>: She’s the most amazing woman I’ve ever met, and I’ve met some pretty amazing people. Underneath that beautiful package is one hell of an intelligent, determined hellcat that I can’t say no to. She’s a survivor…and I’ve never admired anyone more.

Amy: Sometimes Anya likes the spy stuff and other times she doesn’t think it is for her. What do you think?

RS: Oh, she’s definitely spy material. She’s been living undercover for 15 years and protecting some enormous secrets. Anyone who can do that, and still devote herself to helping others, can handle a CIA mission with their hands tied behind their back. But sending her into hostile countries for the Agency? I’m not going to like that. At. All. So if she decides it’s not for her, I’m happy with that!

Amy: What happens next for the two of you?

RS <looks sheepish>: Anya’s planning our wedding, and I’m staying out of her hair. She’s having a blast, and loving every minute of feeling like a normal 26-year-old.  Meantime, I’m heading back to Langley to put some new recruits through The Farm. There’s a cyberwar coming, and regardless of what Del (the Agency’s super geek) believes, I know the US is going to need plenty of HUMINT to battle it. (**Note from Misty: HUMINT stands for Human Intelligence. Spies, in other words!)

Amy: Thanks so much for joining us today! Are you open to any questions from our readers?

RS <winks>: Sure, I’ll answer questions, as long as readers understand I can’t share mission details … or Conrad’s phone number. Just sayin.

Loved the interview! I have an odd question for Ryan here. Where’s the oddest place you two have had sex? (Played a love and marriage game recently, and that was one of the questions. Got some very interesting answers). Thanks for the giveaways!

    1. Misty Evans

Beverly, I’ve had a thing for spies since my first Jason Bourne movie. After 9/11, I read everything I could on the CIA and terrorism. Operation Sheba was my first book in this series and I wrote it in three months. Been hooked on writing spies ever since!

  11. June M.

This sounds like a fun story. Who was the first person you told when you your first book was going to be published?
