Interview & Giveaway: BEYOND: TWO SUNS by Maureen A. Miller

Update – Congratulations to Edie for winning a copy of BEYOND from Maureen!

If you like science fiction, you will love this series! Maureen A. Miller is known for her awesome romantic suspense books, but her last two science fiction/fantasy books have been pretty darn good. Today Maureen is joining us for an interview and a giveaway!

Amy (with So Many Reads): Thank you for joining me for an interview, Maureen!

b2sMaureen: Thank you so much for having me here, Amy. I brought you a bag of cheese puffs, but half seem to be missing. (scratches head and leaves orange crumbs in her hair)

Amy: Normally you are known for your romantic suspense books. How did you come up with the idea for this series?

Maureen: Too much wine.  LOL! No, it was quite simply a matter of me lusting after Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica as a child.  I’m sure it wasn’t lust.  I had his face on the cover of my spiral  notebook that I took to school. Anyway, I always daydreamed that he would come to Earth in his Colonial Viper and take me into space on a great adventure. Daydreams apparently stick with us for a LONG time, because that daydream was the inspiration behind the series.

Amy: Did you find the world building to be challenging or did you enjoy all the creativity you got to use with this?

Maureen: The only limitation I had was the bounds of my own imagination, and apparently my imagination ran rampant.  It was absolutely a blast to have such liberties to create an environment on this gigantic spaceship millions of light years away from our planet.

Amy: When you first wrote BEYOND, did you know it would be a series or did you just plan on the one book?  How many books are planned for this series?

Maureen: I did not intend for this to be a series, but as I started writing I realized that the tale could not be completed in a single book (unless it was War and Peace length). Beyond: Two Suns leaves off with the hint of an option for a third book. I won’t lie. The outline for that book does exist, but I’ll await reader’s feedback first.

Amy: What can your readers look forward to from you in the future? Anything you are working on or planned for the rest of the year?

Maureen: I have just released an old romantic suspense novel that had been taken off the market and completely revised.  It is called HIGH TIDE and is set on the Windward Coast of Oahu.  The BEYOND Series is a romance, but it is a sweet romance.  HIGH TIDE is a hot romance, and I don’t mean because of the Hawaiian weather. 🙂

Amy: When you are not writing, what type of books do you enjoy reading?

Maureen: Romantic Suspense.  When it’s all said and done, that genre is my life…it is my soul.  All hail romantic suspense!

Amy: Thanks for joining us today, Maureen!

Maureen: Thank you for having me, Amy!  Oh (reaches forward), you have a little bit of cheese puff dust there on your cheek.

Thank you so much for having me here, Amy. Beside working, I have spent a great portion of the day trying to determine whether I like sauerkraut or not. I’m leaning towards…no. 🙂

      Thanks for joining me, Maureen!

I was a huge Anne McCaffrey fan, and I still love to read scifi once in a while. If I saw a spaceship in my backyard, I’d probably call 911. My husband might load his shotgun. My cat would hide. My dog would bark.

      Hi Edie,
That’s about the same way I would react if a snake was in the back yard. Sadly, I suspect I would be more freaked out by a snake than an alien spaceship. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by. Happy 4th wishes to you!

Maureen, my sister lives in Phoenix, and she was bitten by a poisonous snake – while she was sleeping in her bed! Her husband rushed her to the hospital, and she lived. But very scary.

Edie – don’t tell us those things! Scary!

Oh my goodness, Edie. Don’t tell me that.

Fine citizens of Phoenix (Edie’s sister included!), I love you dearly, but don’t expect me to move there any time soon! 🙂
