Review & Giveaway: CREATUS by Carmen DeSousa

Update – Congratulations to Kim for winning the gift card from Carmen!

Another good book by Carmen DeSousa. I know when I read Carmen’s books I am going to get quite a mystery that leads me into thinking any number of people could be the villian. The only difference with Creatus is that she puts a paranormal spin on things.

creatusIn Creatus, we meet Derrick and Kristina. Two people that are meant to be together, but someone wants to tear them apart. The problem is they are not sure if it is one of their “family” or someone from the outside. It is up to Derrick to protect Kristina while keeping a watch out for who is after them and why.

The storyline was very intriguing. I have not read anything like it before. Kristina is a girl who lost her mom at a young age and turns to drugs and alcohol to cope. Derrick is the Prince Charming in her life. I found their story to be very sweet given the circumstances surrounding their meeting.

Creatus has a calm urgency to it. I think that is the mystery to it. I didn’t feel as though I was going to come off my chair reading it, however, I couldn’t put it down either. Β I think that was the response to characters’ calmness. I really enjoyed the sweeter intimate moments both Derrick and Kristina shared, as well as the interactions between Kristina and Derrick’s mother. They warmed my heart. I don’t want to spill too much more because you really need to read Carmen’s books for yourself. If you are looking for a paranormal mystery that will intrigue and leave you wanting to read more, I recommend you give Creatus a read!

About the Book:

Title: Creatus (Creatus, #1)
Author: Carmen DeSousa
Release Date: August 26, 2014
Category: Paranormal Romance & Romantic Suspense
Source: Copy received from Author

Book Summary:

As the sun’s rays peeked above the horizon, lighting the abyss below her, she inhaled a deep breath, closed her eyes, and jumped. She didn’t scream; she didn’t look down. As much as she hated her life, she hoped it wouldn’t end this way. She’d really like to see him one more time.

Her life didn’t flash before her eyes as she’d always heard. Just an image of her mother covered in blood and her Dark Angel telling her he was sorry.

CREATUS is a new romantic-suspense novel with a supernatural edge that answers the myths and fairy tales you’ve heard about preternatural sentient beings.

Prepare yourself to believe.

πŸ™‚ Thank you, Kim! Now…I’m off to finish book two… ‘Creatus Rogue’ is coming soon, hopefully by Valentine’s Day. Sent my ideas for the cover to my graphic designer, and she’s excited too, which is always a good thing. πŸ™‚

Oh, I was suppose to answer a question: I love reading about monsters etc: but I don’t believe in them, even though Creatus makes me think there could be creatures and paranormal entities out there. Seeing is believing to me.

There are a lot of compelling arguments for supernatural mythical beings… I researched, weeding out the silly ones, and only chose the most believable, and of course added my own thoughts as well. I’m glad I made you think, Kim. πŸ™‚

The cover is great, isn’t it? I love covers like this – they tell such a story themselves.

Thank you, Amy! Yeah…that was the idea…make the readers wonder why she’s jumping, and yet…she looks peaceful, doesn’t she? πŸ™‚

Thank you! It took over 200 tries to get this one. I had so many designers trying, but this guy nailed the scene that I wanted to portray. It really does set the stage for the novel. Right now…I’m working on the cover for book two, ‘Creatus Rogue’. It’ll be the same concept. Only this time, the female protagonist won’t be falling; she’ll be jumping.
