4.5 Star Review
Running the Red Light is the second book in the Texas Nights Series by Kelsey Browning. Roxanne is making a life for herself in the little town of Shelbyville running her lingerie business. She does this along with her friends Eden and Allie. If you have read the first book Personal Assets, then you are likely familiar with Allie and Cameron’s story. I had not had the opportunity to read the first book and it didn’t affect this story at all. Cameron’s brother Jamie became a silent partner in Roxanne and Allie’s separate businesses and when legal issues strike, Jamie can’t help but assist Roxanne. Along the way, their attraction to each other takes off and we get their story in this book.
Roxanne makes for a great heroine. She is strong and wants to work hard to keep her business. Her work ethic is amazing. I also loved her because she is feisty in her fight with Ashton, her former boss. Ashton is a rich princess that is suing Roxanne and trying to takeover her longerie business.
Jamie makes for the sexy hero who I found to be frustrating at times. His career ambtions cause him to make some poor decisions. Despite this, he is good to his mom, and when it comes down to it, he becomes a man of character. We also see his soft side when we see Jamie’s reaction after finding out about his dad.
I really enjoyed this love story as it was multifaceted. We not only get Roxanne and Jamie’s story but we get to watch Ashton’s character transformation. In her story, we come across Jessup who was probably my favorite character in this whole book. I loved the scene when Jessup and Ashton go ice skating. In addition to these endearing moments, there were also some really great one liners in this story which made it really funny.
So why not a five star rating?? Well, some things just went too fast for my liking. Jamie and Roxanne’s transition from business partners to bedroom partners just happened a tad too quickly for me. Roxanne also jumps back into Jamie’s arms too fast after she finds out his career and marriage plans at the Gala. It just seemed out of character for her. I also felt the ending was really quick and I was sad there was no Epilogue which is one of my favorite parts to a story. Despite this, the book was still great and I think it makes for a great story. I am looking forward to going back and reading about Allie and Cameron and I am hoping the next story will be Eden’s or maybe even Ashton’s.

About the Book:
After wearing a “Least Likely to Succeed” label all her life, Roxanne Eberly is hell-bent on making her Red Light Lingerie store successful. Although the residents of small-town Shelbyville, Texas, are a little…lingerie-resistant, she’ll win them over eventually. So when a former employer sues her, putting a major wrinkle in her careful plans, she reluctantly accepts help from hot-stuff Houston attorney Jamie Wright.
Jamie’s on track to become his firm’s youngest partner, but discovers an unwritten prerequisite—marriage. Turns out, the only woman he wants is Roxanne, but peddling thongs and sex toys isn’t a suitable career for the spouse of an up-and-coming attorney.
Jamie’s tangled up in Roxanne’s lawsuit, her life and her lingerie. But if they’re ever going to make it work, Roxanne’s big-city boy will have to decide what he values more: the career he always thought he wanted or the woman he never thought he’d fall for.
