Character Interview & Giveaway: Southern California Violent Crimes Taskforce Series by Misty Evans

Update: Congratulations to Joann & Jeanie – the winners of Deadly Pursuit!

Happy Release Day to Misty Evans for Deadly Deception, the second book in her Southern California Violent Crimes Taskforce Series.. Misty, you couldn’t have come up with a shorter name for this series?  Just kidding. I have a treat for you guys! Thomas and Ronni from Deadly Deception are here today for an interview and Misty is giving away two copies of Deadly Pursuit, the first book in the Southern California Violent Crimes Taskforce Series.

* * * * *

Amy: Thanks for joining me today, Thomas & Ronni! To get started with this interview, can you tell the readers a little about yourselves? Actually, to make it fun, Ronni, can you tell us about Thomas, and Thomas, can you tell us about Ronni?

Ronni: Thomas is like a heat-seeking missile—very intense. He’s also an alpha male, but he has a great sense of humor and he’s completely unselfish and wants to keep me safe. Sometimes, he’s too protective. I know how to take care of myself, and he tries to give me space, but that alpha male is hard to suppress when I’m in danger.

28Thomas: Ronni strives to be a hardass, and she’s in a male-dominated field, so I get the reason why. It’s not easy working with us “alpha males” all day long. But in reality, she’s actually a big marshmallow on the inside. And I’ll tell you a secret, I was never fooled by her badass act, even back when I first met her.

Ronni <narrowing her eyes>: My act? You think this is an act?

Thomas: See? <winks at Amy> Hardass.

Amy: Did you ever think you would be working with each other? Thomas, a DEA agent and Ronni an FBI agent?

Ronni:  Nope. I never thought I’d be recruited by the SCVC taskforce. They’re very elite. However, I have a rather special skillset they needed for Operation Truth, and I had a no-fail way in. Sorry, I can’t tell you what that was…you’ll have to read the book.

Thomas: I can tell them.

Ronni: Not if you want me to go home with you tonight.

Amy: What is the best part about working together? The most difficult?

Ronni: The best part for me is having a partner I can trust. Celina, my first partner and best friend, spoiled me. After she left Des Moines, it was rough without her. Now I have Thomas…he’s not Celina, but being partners with him does have its perks. He gives the best massages. <big grin>

Amy: I learned that Thomas tends to be quite the movie expert. Tell me, Thomas, what is your favorite movie?

Thomas: SOME LIKE IT HOT with Marilyn Monroe. My mom was a huge Monroe fan, so she would take me to the dollar matinee, and that was my first experience with black and white film. It was also the first time I saw men cross-dressing. I was very confused.

Ronni <reaches over and slugs his shoulder>: Be serious. You have every Frank Capra, J.J. Abrams, and John Hughes movie ever made. And you know I know what your favorite movie is. Fess up.

Thomas <clearing his throat and giving Ronni a dirty look>: GONE WITH THE WIND, THE GODFATHER, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS…there are too many to name one favorite.

Ronni: He’s lying. He doesn’t have an Academy award-winning movie in his Blu-ray collection. Trust me. His favorite movie is THE GOONIES.

Thomas: Damn it, woman! I’m trying to appear cultured, here. Now my secret is out.

Amy: If you had to pick any movie that represents your relationship with Ronni, what would it be?

Thomas: That’s easy. HELL ON WHEELS.

Ronni: That’s a TV show.

Thomas: Same principal.

Ronni: God, you’re awful! Our relationship is more like…WALL-E.

Thomas: A Disney movie? Really?

Ronni: Yep, you’re this annoying little robot who moons over me and gets both of us in trouble.

Amy: Ronni, what is your favorite trait of Thomas’? Is there something he does that you claim you don’t like but secretly love it?

Ronni: There are a lot of things he does that I don’t like…like all those crazy nicknames he has for me. Yeesh. But he grows on you after a while. He’s sexy, he knows how to infiltrate everything from a drug cartel to a religious cult, and he has this secret past I’m dying to dig into. <lowering her voice to a whisper> And don’t tell him, but I kind of like that he’s super protective of me.

Thomas: I heard that, you know.

Amy: Thomas, what about Ronni? Is there something you love about her that she doesn’t know yet?

Thomas: My delicious honey-covered jalapeno? Miss Fabulous But Irritating? So much to love, where do I start?

Amy: On to your story. What do you hope readers will take away from Deadly Deception?

Ronni: I hope they take away the idea that no matter a person’s religious beliefs or personal choices, they’re still a human being with feelings and people who care about them.

Thomas: Deadly Deception is like a Die Hard movie with a cult leader instead of a terrorist. I hope readers are entertained more than anything else.

Amy: What’s next for the two of you?

Ronni: I’m staying on with the taskforce and working on my next assignment—Project Bliss.

Thomas: I’m staying on the taskforce, too, and I’ll be helping Navy SEAL, Cal Reese, in the next SCVC Taskforce book, Deadly Force. I’d tell you more about him and his mission to protect Bianca, an NSA agent, but then I’d have to kill you.

Amy: Anything else you want to tell the readers about?

Ronni: Misty wants me to tell your readers that the first book in the SCVC Taskforce series is on sale for 99 cents through March 28th, in case they haven’t read it and would like to start the series from the beginning.

Thomas: And Cal and Bianca’s story, Deadly Force, will be out this fall. I can’t wait to see what Cal’s got up his SEAL sleeves. <grinning at Ronni> Alpha males rule.

Amy: Thanks for joining us today!

Ronni & Thomas: Thanks for having us, Amy!

I read an early copy of Deadly Deception and let me tell you, Thomas and Ronni are this fun in the book, too. In the story, they also have some very tough situations to work through which adds a whole new layer to their relationship.

Loved, loved, loved this book!!! Thomas was so much fun! Ronni handled him so well! Oh, and I really like the movie The Replacements, which made me like this book even more! I will never think of honey the same way ever again…LOL.

What a great interview! Lots of fun!

Hi Heather! I love The Replacements too! And that honey scene…well, I’m not even sure where that came from inside my head, but I will never look at the honey the same way either. I’m so glad you loved Ronni and Thomas’s story, and I appreciate you stopping by the interview. 🙂

That honey scene was awesome. I was surprised when I read it thinking, “Misty is spicing it up a bit.” I loved it. You rocked that scene. 🙂

They are such a great pair and you caught the characterizations perfectly. Fun! Thanks!

I always enjoy doing character interviews…sort of a behind the scenes look at the hero and heroine outside their story. Thanks for stopping by, Jeanie!

loved the interview! looking forward to reading the book. I read stealing justice and it was really good. Favorite Movie? hmmmm, Sleepless in Seattle, and The Godfather (1 and 2 the best).

Hey, Joann. For Stealing Justice Adrienne made me do an interview with Grey (the character I wrote) before we even started writing. That was hard for me…I get to know my characters as I go along usually. But by doing an interview up front, I learned more right away about Grey. He continues to be a bit uptight and protective in Cheating Justice with Monroe. Monroe is a lot more laid back like Thomas in this story, and neither of these guys is afraid to break the rules. Always fun to write!

Early Dawn 1&2 is one of my favorite movies. There are many quotes that are a kick from any of the Four. Thank you for the giveaway. I am looking forward to reading this book.

Hi Melody. Thanks for stopping by. I love to reference movies and songs in my books because both play a huge role in inspiring me.
