Conquering Jealousy

Today’s post is going to be a little different than my others. A little more serious and a little more personal…

I have been dealing with some jealousy lately and it really sucks. Just when I think I have conquered it, in moments of weakness, the emotions come rushing back in. The situation causing the jealousy is not something I can control. It isn’t like I can work harder or train physically. There is no cheating or besting anyone, either. It just is what it is and is not going to change. It is also not a situation I choose to walk away from, so I have to accept it.

11276297I am a Christian and know that God has a plan. He has a plan for me and my life, as He does for others. While I know this intellectually, it is difficult in my heart to accept at times. As I said, there are just times that my own self-imposed hurt feelings creep back in and try to take over.

So what am I doing about it? Well, a couple of things. First, I have started reading Enemies of the Heart by Andy Stanley with several ladies at my church and am really looking forward to this study. I need to change my heart so this seems like a good place to start. As you all know, there is a lot of good information in books!

Secondly, I turn to Pinterest. Didn’t expect that answer, did you? I have an inspiration board where I pin positive quotes during these moments of insecurity that remind me of where I should focus my attention. One quote that has stood out to me lately is the one listed below.

Move On Quotes (Jealousy Quotes) 0070-0072 (27)

This quote really hits home. God has blessed me so much that I feel I would be offending those that have been a part of the blessings bestowed upon me to dwell on someone else’s.

I also believe, in order to truly conquer something, I am probably going to have to face it several times to build up my powers against it. Hmm, now I am thinking like a superhero. Well, they do conquer all sorts of amazing things, right? I think I can handle that. Now I need a superhero name.

If you made it this far, thanks for listening and hope you find some awesome inspiration today!ย Do you have any favorite inspirational books I can add to my TBR pile or quotes I can add to my Pinterest board?

Amy, we all feel jealousy at some time or other. You’re being too harsh on yourself. Here’s an article on forgiving yourself for jealousy and any imperfections you think you have: http://theopensoul.com/tag/marianne-williamson/ And this page has great quotes by her: http://www.entheos.com/quotes/by_teacher/marianne+williamson ๐Ÿ™‚

    Amy –

Jealousy attacks all of us. I think it’s especially hard when we’re jealous of people we love and admire. It seems like a betrayal, you know? Know what you have going for you that lots of folks don’t? You’re self-aware. And, sugar, that is MORE than half the battle.

    Big Friday hugs,
    K-

I agree with Kelsey. Jealousy affects everyone. Character is all about how you deal with it. And I think you’re heading down the right path!

    Galatians 6:9

And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint.

Thank you, Mary! I was just explaining to my daughter the other day that one reason to memorize Bible verses is to pull them out when you need them like this. ๐Ÿ™‚
