Okay, so I am hooked. After reading A Touch of Midnight and now Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian, I am hooked on The Midnight Breed Series. I don’t read paranormal often, but am glad I found this series to fuel me in between the other romance genres I read when I am looking for a little vampire action.
Kiss of Midnight is the first full length story in The Midnight Breed Series and features Lucan and Gabrielle. It also lays the foundation for all the world building for the series within this vampire nation. The Breed Warriors are at war with the Rogue Vampires. Good versus evil.
Lucan, the leader of the Breed Warriors is strong, respected and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. He has a lot of demons to fight and doesn’t ask for help with any of them. He sees himself as the leader that needs to watch over and protect his kind – not the other way around. When human Gabrielle crosses his path, all bets are off. He is drawn to her and finds her frustratingly comforting.
Gabrielle is a Breedmate, which is unknown to her and she finds herself in the middle of a war with vampires that she had no idea existed. Gabrielle is the soothing touch that Lucan needs, even if he doesn’t realize it for awhile. She is pretty much the only one not afraid to confront him on things. I love watching big tough guys getting their butts handed to them by sweet women. The interactions between Lucan and Gabrielle were by far my favorite parts of the book. The balance between the story and the intimate scenes was well done.
The other characters we are introduced to in this book are all very intriguing. I can’t wait to read more about them. Savannah was probably my favorite of the females. Just her compassion and patience for everyone was amazing. Tegan is the biggest question mark of the vampires for me. Will he ever be able to forgive Lucan for what he did? Will he be able to move beyond his tragic past? These questions and have me looking forward to his story.
Kiss of Midnight is a very entertaining story. There are moments of action as well as sweet romantic moments (the end was great!). The plot is well written and the characters have a lot of depth to them. I really felt the emotions of the characters while reading, as Lara’s writing is so smooth and easy to get lost in. If you like paranormal romance, or aren’t sure and want to give it a try, I highly recommend Kiss of Midnight.

About the Book:
INSATIABLE DESIRE. ENDLESS SEDUCTION. ONE TOUCH IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night–or this man–is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed–a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.
Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind–and the unwitting humans existing alongside them–from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.
Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all . . . .
