Review of Love’s Encore:

Romance and mystery. These were two of my favorite types of books as I was growing up and this resurrected romance of Sandra Brown’s fits the bill for the first of my favorites. Sandra wrote this back in the 80’s and it Is reminiscent of that period of romance writing. The setting is the south, Natchez to be precise, and the opening finds Camille preparing to help restore an old southern mansion. What she is not prepared for is meeting Zach again, an old acquaintance from the past, a very intimate acquaintance. In fact their past relationship has haunted her for the last two years and more or less spoiled her for other men.

As the story unfolds Sandra weaves her description of the mansion, its grounds and its characters so well that they are brought to life in your imagination. There is the usual struggle of the two main characters to understand each other or in most cases misunderstand, and of course the required unexpected emergencies which help put events into perspective. I found this novel rather nostalgic and reminded me of many of those early novels I so loved to read as a young woman. If you enjoy the strong, handsome yet arrogant hero and the often feisty but somewhat demur heroine then this is the novel for you. It is not high drama or action, but a nice story with a happy ending.

About Love’s Encore:

In one reckless night, Camille Jameson’s life was changed forever: a tall, handsome stranger, an evening of romance — and enough regrets to last a lifetime. Two years later, Camille is a successful interior decorator with the opportunity to restore one of Mississippi’s proudest plantations. She arrives excited and eager to face her greatest professional challenge to date — until Zack Prescott saunters through the mansion’s front door and back into her life. He is exactly as she remembers, except for the knowing look in his eyes that reminds her of what they once shared. Now, forced to live in unbearably close quarters, Camille and Zack will discover if they have the courage to face the past — and, perhaps, build a future together . . .

Review of Eloquent Silence:

Silence is the world that Jennifer Rivington lives in since she was born deaf.  Her father, Drake, a famous soap opera star, has placed her in a school for the deaf where Lauri Parrish is a teacher. This is what brings Drake and Lauri together as Lauri becomes a private teacher for Jennifer. However, the association between Lauri and Drake is anything but smooth even thought they both love Jennifer. Drake is a spoiled by all the attention his character gets in his leading role in the soap opera. Lauri is not impressed by his fame but cannot help herself from falling in love with him. Their relationship is stormy yet passionate but one that takes a variety of twists and turns.

While I would have liked the story line to have been more developed, there is no shortage of love scenes and the building desires between Drake and Lauri. This is Sandra Brown writing one of her earliest and most poignant love stories.  It is sure to please those who love the ebb and flow of relationships until they reach the critical peak of fulfillment.

About Eloquent Silence:

Lauri is a dedicated young teacher for the deaf. Her past conceals a wound still unhealed, her present is a facade, and she uses her career to hide her loneliness. Drake, daytime TV’s most popular star, has two secrets — the daughter he believes may never have a normal life and the dead wife he can’t forget. Jennifer is the beautiful hearing-impaired child who may become a pawn between the man and the woman she needs most. Now, in a chic New Mexico arts community, the three are given a chance to be a family…but first each must find a voice to express the deepest fears and greatest needs of the heart.
