In Captivate by Amy Miles, Ashlyn Doyle has what seems like a dream job: assistant to the very famous Tamsin Archer, red hot romance writer. One of Ashlyn’s many duties is to find the perfect model for Tamsin’s book. At an audition in London Ashlyn selects an unknown model, Slade Collins, to be the latest eye candy for millions of Tamsin’s adoring fan girls. As Ashlyn and Slade work together on a whirl wind book tour, it soon becomes apparent that there is more to their relationship than just work.
I downloaded this book to read in preparation to attend Penned Con 2014 in September. I really wasn’t sure what to expect simce I have never heard of the author. The book was free and I am always a sucker for a good romance
The book was initially hard for me to get into. I am not a fan of present tense narration. Once I got used to the writing style, I got sucked into the story. If not for work and other obligations, I probably would have finished this in less than a day.
The most compelling part of the story was not the romance between Ashlyn and Slade, but Ashlyn’s character. Ashlyn is an introvert, who uses work to hide from the world when it becomes too much. As a follow introvert, I related very strongly to Ashlyn’s character. Miles’s description of what it’s like to be an introvert resonated deeply with me. One scene in particular, when Slade imagines he is Ashlyn in a crowded subway really spoke to me. Especially when Slade realizes how Ashlyn would be so overwhelmed and would need to withdraw into herself to rejuvenate whereas he found the crowd invigorating (I came very close to shouting “Yes! Someone gets it!” but since I was reading in public, I decided against it).
Overall this is a very enjoyable read. it is a sweet romance and a very quick read, which are two irresistible combinations. I look forward to reading more by the author and hopefully meet her at Penned Con.

About the Book:
Ashlyn Doyle doesn’t trust the world.
Assistant to the famous romance author, Tamsin Archer, it falls to Ashlyn to find the perfect eye candy to grace the cover of Ender’s Betrayal, but when she bumps into Slade Collins on the streets of London, she gets far more than she bargained for.
Determined to make his mark in the world, Slade leaps at the opportunity to bring Ender James to life during a five city book tour. His sly smile and dashing British accent easily capture the attention of the fiery Tamsin Archer, and her assistant. The faster Slade moves into the spotlight, the more he begins to realize that fame isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
As Ashlyn and Slade are forced to work side by side, they will soon discover that love is a tangible thing, but only if they are willing to reach for it.
