Review: PLAYING IT CLOSE by Kat Latham

In Playing it Close by Kat Latham, after the death of his mother, the captain of the London Legends needs a mental health break. Liam Callahan books a week at an exotic eco-friendly resort in Venezuela for some much needed R&R. What he hadn’t planned on was getting stuck in an elevator with the beautiful and sassy Tess Chambers or on having a hot one night stand with her. And he really didn’t plan on coming back to London to find out Tess’s company is now one of his team’s sponsors. Having lost her last job due to sleeping with a coworker,  Tess can’t afford to loose this job by continuing their relationship but she also can’t seem to stay away from him either.

18649476If you have read any of my previous reviews of books in this series,  you pretty much know that I think it’s awesome. Latham is an excellent writer,  who creates hot book boyfriends,  strong sexy women who love them,  and steamy love scenes. When I am reading one of her books my world disappears and time stops while I immerse myself in the riveting world of the London Legends.

Liam is a bit of a player who knows full well that women use him for his fame. When he meets Tess in Venezuela,  she lies and says she doesn’t know who he is, which is extremely appealing to her. Once they meet up again in London,  Liam discovers there is more to Tess than her looks.  Liam realizes he has a good thing when the two of them spend hours watching and discussing rugby.

Tess has literally been to hell and back after enduring sexual harassment at her previous job. It got so bad, Tess started blogging about it, and caught the attention of the British government. Tess ends up testifying in a hearing and has her name drug through the mud by her former employer. Having made a promise to her cousin,  who is her new boss, she refuses to let her relationship with Liam become serious and fights it until the end.

Besides touching on the issue of sexual harassment, Latham also talks about body image. Tess is extremely skinny and lacks the usual endowments Liam’s previous lovers had. Even when Liam says he loves her body, Tess refuses to believe him. In one touching scene  (that quickly becomes smoking hot), Liam inists that he loves her body and that she has nothing at all to be ashamed of. I honestly can’t say enough good thing about this series. If you haven’t read them, download them all and enjoy!

Book Summary:

Where do you go to escape everything when you’re one of the most famous rugby players in the world? For Liam Callaghan, that place is a remote lodge on Venezuela’s Caribbean coast. Perfect, except he doesn’t exactly want to be alone with his thoughts. Enter Tess Chambers, the ultimate distraction.

Still reeling from a professional disaster that’s made her all but unemployable, Tess understands the desire to move through life as somebody else. So when instantly recognizable Liam uses a fake name, she runs with it and creates a temporary new identity of her own.

Their time spent together in paradise is idyllic but brief—after one passionate night, Liam wakes up to find Tess gone. Returning to London, he’s shocked to learn she’s taken a job with his team’s new sponsor. As the Legends’ captain, he’ll have to not only figure out how to work with the one woman who ever left him wanting more, but also convince her that their feelings in the present mean more than any lies they’ve told in the past.
