Free Book Thank You

Happy Friday! What is everyone reading this weekend? Was it free? There are a ton of free books available right now. Some are perma free and some are free for a limited time. Do you ever stop and think about how generous an author is for giving us their book for free? An author puts months and sometimes years into their book. And then give it away for free. What the heck?

Don’t get me wrong. I love free books like the rest of you, but it blows my mind that an author can give up their book for free. Think about the amount of time you spend at work and what your hourly wage is. Most authors do not get that type of money back in book sales. And then, they GIVE some of their books away for FREE. Talk about generous!

When someone gives you a gift, normally you would thank them, right? A thank you card, an email, or even just a verbal thank you. How about we thank authors for these free books? Sure, we can thank them with words, but why not thank them with a review? It doesn’t have to be a long review. It can be a few sentences to describe how much you liked the book, the characters, etc. Some great advice I once received was to write a review like you are talking to your friend about the book. That might take about 5-10 minutes and would mean the world to an author. The more reviews a book receives on Amazon, the more exposure it receives and therefore the author. Which will lead to their other books and hopefully more sales.

So, I am want to challenge you with a Free Book Thank You. When you are finished reading a free book (or really any for that matter, but especially free ones), would you be willing to leave a review of the book on Amazon?

Happy Reading!

Always leave reviews unless I don’t care for a book because it isn’t to my taste. I select my free books as carefully as I do my full pay books so that doesn’t happen often. I do sadly buy and click free books faster than I can read them. Working on that. The authors deserve to be read and reviewed.

Thanks for the note, Jeanie. I agree about not leaving reviews if I didn’t like it. I only post review for books I would recommend. I used to be one-click happy and would always download free books, but like you, I am more selective now. 🙂
