In Taming The Legend by Kat Latham, Retiring rugby player, Ash Trenton has had a long and storied career. Wanting to leave on a positive note before his aging body lets him down, Ash retires after the World Cup. At his retirement party he is shocked to run into Camila Morales, his first lover. Camila desperately needs his help to save the camp she runs in California for troubled teens. Camila convinces Ash to to come and coach an all girls rugby team to play in the San Diego Sevens. Ash isn’t prepared for coaching troubled teens and he definitely isn’t prepared for falling back in love with Camila. When a perfect career opportunity arises for Ash, will he accept it and leave the woman he loves?
I sound like a broken record but I enjoy this series so much. Latham has a knack for creating amazing characters and storylines. When I am reading one of her books I keep swiping for the next page, promising myself I will stop after the current chapter ends and then I realize I have lied to myself and several hours have gone by.
Ash and Camila are the classic star crossed lovers but Latham keeps that trope fresh with her own spin on it. The couple initially met in Barcelona, while both were on vacation. The young teenagers become lovers, fall in love, and promise to remain in contact forever and ever. When Camila writes Ash though, her letters get returned. Ash decides that Camila has moved on and focuses on his rugby career.
Reading about Ash coaching the rugby team is laugh out loud hilarious. Ash was expecting a team of experienced boys. What he got was a group of 8 girls who have never even heard of rugby. Ash doesn’t let that stop him and attempts to mold them into a team by treating them just as he would a team of boys. One of the funniest scenes is when he is teaching the girls all about the naughty sounding positions along with life sized cut outs of his former team and he learns just how dirty girls can be.
Speaking of dirty, Ash is a master at dirty talking. Normally I don’t care for dirty talk in a book. It comes off forced and silly. Not with Ash! Holy heck! The man has a gift for explicitly telling Camila what he wants to do to her and what he thinks of her. It’s almost hotter than the actual love scenes.
This book was another great addition to the London Legends series. It had me laughing, crying, and fanning myself. If you haven’t downloaded these books, do it! You are seriously missing out on an awesome series!
