Midnight Shadows by Lisa Marie Rice is a novella in the Midnight Series and is also the first book I have read by this author. It won’t be the last. Midnight Shadows features Allegra and Douglas from Midnight Angel, a married couple spending some quality time on a Greek Isle where they can relax together.
Allegra is recovering from experimental brain surgery that allowed her to regain her sight after a brutal beating left her blind. Douglas has been the doting husband but she is sick of being treated with kid gloves. She is ready to show her husband that she is back and ready to live her life again.
This was a quick read but a great sample of what Rice’s writing and storytelling is like. I am intrigued by Douglas and Yannis, both former SEALs and enjoyed watching them team up at the end when a threat was taking place. Allegra was a strong heroine and very inspiring. It certainly interests me enough to want to read their full length story.
The writing of Midnight Shadows is smooth and engaging and draws you into the story. I look forward to reading more books by Lisa Marie Rice after this one. If you like romantic suspense, I suggest you give Midnight Shadows a try.

She sees shadows that aren’t there.
Gifted harpist Allegra Kowalski has had risky surgery to restore her sight. It has been a long hard road back. Her husband, former SEAL Douglas Kowalski, has been with her every step of the way, loving and protective, but is no longer the sex god in bed he used to be. He treats her like a fragile piece of glass. He loves her deeply but won’t touch her. He can’t see that she is ready to be a wife again and not a patient. On vacation in a luxury resort on a gorgeous Greek isle, Allegra vows to seduce her husband, to bring their marriage back to what it was before.
She wants her music and her husband back and on that magical island in the Mediterranean, she gets her wish.
And when danger strikes, Allegra learns just how much her husband loves her and how strong she can be when the shadows that haunted her are banished forever.
