In Mystical Warrior by Janet Chapman, Centuries ago, Fiona Gregor was kidnapped and raped. After she gave birth to a son, who passed away, Fiona herself also died but she was reincarnated as a red tailed hawk. Her brother, a wizard and time traveler, finally locates Fiona and brings her the the twenty first century as a human. Fiona isn’t ready to handle life in this century and her brother forces her to become independent by kicking her out of his house. Trace Huntsman, a lobster fisherman and former soldier, gets bullied into renting his upstairs apartment to Fiona. Fiona and Trace knock heads repeatedly, but they can’t deny their attraction to each other. Can they find love and save Midnight Bay from evil demons?
Fiona was such an interesting character to read about. She desperately wanted to be an independent woman and enjoy the freedoms this century has to offer but she struggled to overcome her fears. She also really wanted to become a mother again after her heartbreaking loss. In one funny chapter, Fiona learns about how single women can have children in this day and age and decides that she is going to save enough money to go to a sperm bank (which goes over extremely well with Trace).
Trace was a hard character to like at first. He was extremely gruff with Fiona in the beginning. She gradually won him over but not before he acted like a complete jerk. Once he got over his caveman mentality towards Fiona, their relationship went much smoother.
Mystical Warrior is the third book in the Midnight Bay series (this is not a standalone read ). Readers who enjoy paranormal romances with a little time travel thrown in will want to add this sexy adventure to their TBR list

Not when her mere presence ignites a fiery passion deep within his cautious heart.
Fiona longs to overcome the painful memories of her tragic past—to let down her guard and become a mother again. But so far her handsome landlord is not exactly thrilled with the stray animals—and suitors—that keep following her home. When the wizard Maximilian Oceanus shows up, Trace reaches the end of his rope. Weird things happen when Mac is around—raging storms, snarling demons—but this time, Midnight Bay is at the center of a fierce battle, and Fiona is the primary target. Only Trace can save her, but first, the lovers must set aside their fears . . . and open up their hearts.
