In Corktown by Ty Hutchinson Abby Kane moved to the states to be able to spend more time with her children now that she is a single mom after the death of her husband. Once a high profile officer in Hong Kong,  Abby is looking for some peace and quiet with the FBI. A serial killer has reappeared in Detroit and the local police are scared. They were positive the killer was behind bars. Abby is sent to Detroit to investigate and what she uncovers is frightening. Can she solve the case before the killer makes her a victim?

16091473This little jewel of a thriller has been buried in my Kindle since March 2013. As part of the #forgottenbookchallenge, I have been trying to one click less and read more. If you are interested in participating,  look the group up on Facebook. Anyone is welcome to join.

Abby Kane is a kick butt heroine. Not only is she raising a family by herself but she is am awesome agent. Even when she was told to back off by numerous characters, Abby refused to give up.

One of the things I liked about this book is that the readers know who the serial killer is. It’s just a matter of figuring out why they are doing and how will Abby catch them. What made the killer so terrifying was how “normal ” they seemed on the outside. Another great aspect of this book was the political intrigue. Everyone from the mayor down swore the killer was behind bars. Eventually, Abby uncovers the very disturbing truth that the wrong person was penned with the murders and for very scary reasons.

Corktown is a riveting thriller with very well developed characters. Fans of Karin Slaughter will definitely enjoy this book. I know I am personally looking forward to reading more in this series.

Summary

The Doctor Is Back.

In the quiet Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, a mutilated body has the residents nervous and for good reason. Detroit Metro Police recognize the handiwork of the serial killer known as the Doctor. But there’s a problem with that. They locked him up seven years ago.

Because of her expertise with serial killers, former hotshot detective and now FBI agent, Abby Kane, is tasked with figuring out how this madman is able to kill again. When she visits The Doctor behind bars, he swears he’s innocent and not the psychopath everyone thinks he is. Oddly enough, Abby believes him.

Corktown dives headfirst into the grit of Detroit, exposing the government corruption and deadly violence that has haunted the city for decades.
