Another double review coming to you today! Candy and I (Amy) both read and reviewed Gator by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey and here is what we thought about it…
Gabriel “Gator “ Moreno receives a phone call from his childhood friend, Manny Cortez asking Gator to return to Florida to protect his baby sister. While Gator gave up his criminal leanings and became a Navy SEAL, Manny stayed in Florida, living a life of crime and now he has ticked off the El Rey drug cartel. Gabe can’t say no to Manny so he heads down to Florida to see what he can do to help out his friend. Alysa Cortez never imagined that Gabe would return to Florida or that she would still have feelings for him after all these years. Angry at Gabe after she assumed he turned on Manny when the two got arrested as teens, she really isn’t happy that Gabe is back in town. Will Gabe be able to protect Alysa? Can the couple work past their issues and years of separation to find true love?
I am always excited when I get my hands on a book by these two authors. I always know I am in for a well researched book with strong characters and a lot of heat. Gator is another example of the fantastic writing this duo produces.
Candy and I have a treat for you! We both read Alternate Connection by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey and had a virtual conversation about it. We thought this would be a fun way to tell you all about it. If you want to read our formal reviews you can jump over and read them on Amazon here: Candy’s Review / Amy’s Review. This is a long conversation, but Alternate Connection was a long book.

What was your overall reaction to the story once you finished?
Candy: I had a massive book hangover when I was done. To Russia With Love will always be my favorite because I got to watch that being role played back in the day. I think this is a very close second. Chris and Cecilia have written am amazing book! Action, suspense, romance. It’s all in there.
Amy: I was overwhelmed. Chris and Cecilia pack so much into their stories and there are so many plots and storylines converging. They were all excellent, though. My favorite story line was Nathan and Rachael’s though. I wanted more of that for sure. The authors know how to keep the reader on the edge and flipping pages for sure!
What was your favorite part of the book?
Amy: My favorite parts were with Nathan and Rachael in the cave. It was what I was looking forward to since I knew Alternate Connection was going to include their story. And probably Chapter 12 with Trevor and Cassandra not exactly agreeing on something. 😉 Continue reading

In Payback, Trevor and Cassie Bauer are working hard on a case, spending hours upon hours in front of their computers. As the saying goes, all work and no play makes for a boring life. Trevor suggests a walk through a nearby park and a movie. After some prodding, Cassie agrees and while on their way to the movies, they grab some ice cream. Cassie puts on quite a show while eating it and Trevor decides that a little payback is in order when they get to the movies. Just how far will he go to get back at his wife?
All I can say is WOW. This quick short story will have you squirming in seconds. If a normal love scene is a small campfire, Almeida and Aubrey dump a can of gasoline on it and then skip away leaving you wanting more. It’s that hot.
Trevor is in full Alpha Geek mode in this short. He knows exactly what he wants and how to get it. There is great narration about how Trevor has learned what Cassie likes and how he uses all of the tricks to exact his payback. It is the perfect cocky response to a situation that readers have grown to love and expect from Trevor.
I finished reading Burn Me by Éirinn Brennan and let me tell you, it was hot. This first book in the Illicit Allure series features four friends that jet off to Bora Bora for Emma Clark’s bachelorette party. This is unlike any other bachelorette party I have experienced. The premise of the book had me a little concerned because I am really not a fan of cheating or one night stands. Brennan managed to calm my nerves in the way the story was told and allow me to enjoy the whirlwind romance Emma shared with Calvin…or Callum…or Cal. Whatever you want to call him. 😉
As with all novellas, the story had a quicker buildup than a traditional novel and startled me at first. I quickly realized it was indeed a novella and was able to just enjoy the fun story for what it was.
Emma was a nervous soon-to-be bride while her friends all encouraged her to enjoy this last getaway before the big day, reminding her that her marriage was not one of true love. Emma, being the skeptic about true love anyway, decides to go for it when she sees the hottie in the water. Cal, working undercover as a windsurfing instructor at the resort he just purchased, meets Emma and doesn’t need to think twice about the proposition of an evening with her. After all, he was checking her out just as much as she was him earlier that afternoon. What he assumed was going to be a fling suddenly turns into more than he expected.
