Mist by Maureen M Miller is a story that will have you shivering with suspense as well as the cold of the Atlantic Ocean. Jack and Olivia meet due to a suspicious attack on his Uncle’s research vessel. From the moment they meet they are on the run from a threat that they don’t even understand. As readers we get to watch the mystery unravel with the characters.
Miller can always be counted on to deliver an original story with great characters and edge of your seat suspense. Mist is no different. I enjoyed being taken out on the sea and learning about things new to me. It’s always fun to read about jobs or adventures that I would never find myself in on a regular basis. I might think twice about going out to sea again after reading this. 😉
Olivia and Jack’s romance was authentic and built with the story. There are no crazy love scenes in the midst of running for their lives because that isn’t them. They don’t rush into things but think them through. They made it more real and believable. It’s sweet.
The set up for the next book, Dusk, was done quite well. I can’t wait to find out more about Amanda Newton of Blue-Link and Ray!
Mist is an intriguing mystery filled with a nice balance of heart stopping action and calculated escapes so if you are looking for a well written romantic suspense, give this one a read. While it is part of the Blue-Link series, each book can be read on their own with individual plots.

Some books just stay with you even when they are closed. Shadow by Maureen A. Miller is this type of book. It has all of the characteristics I expect of a book from author – great story line, well developed characters, and a great balance of romance and suspense. Shadow had me engaged from the first page and looking over my shoulder until the very end. And yes, I mean literally. I was out one night when it was dark and wondered if the Shadow was out there somewhere. I love it when books come alive and affect me even when I am not reading them!
In Shadow we meet Sophie who is trying like crazy to move on with her life after her boss up and left the counseling firm she worked. While dealing with unemployment she also has a stalker who she has nicknamed The Shadow that follows here around all the time. Even when she moves to London! She is fiesty and strong and everything you want in a heroine. The hero of the story, Glenn, is not at all what I expected after my first impression of him. He is so broken and still so very kind and thoughtful. His story brought tears to my eyes and my heart ached for him. All I could think about was how good it is that he has Sophie in his life.
Sophie and Glenn are an unlikely pair, which I loved. The chemistry was pretty hot between them and when they weren’t solving crimes I loved getting lost in their intimacy. Despite the circumstances under which they met, their romance was very sweet and makes you realize that you never know where you will find your true love.
Typically I am not a science fiction reader. It is not something that really interests me all that much, however, as I continue to learn, it is all about the story. I love Maureen A. Miller’s romantic suspense books and her writing in general so I thought I would give her Beyond series a shot. I loved Beyond. It was so fascinating to me how she could come up with such a world in outer space and the ending to the story left me ready for more.
In Beyond: Two Suns, we find Aimee and Zak wanting nothing more than to get back to one another. Fives years has gone by and a lot has happened. When Aimee boards the Horus ship again anticipating quite the reunion with Zak, the love of her life, she is in for a surprise. He isn’t there. It is now her mission to rescue him from his home planet. No one thought she could do it. She is a girl after all and other Warriors had already tried and failed. Well, when a woman is in love, not much stops her!
Young Adult books are not my favorite romance genre, but I love Maureen A. Miller’s books so I had to try this one. I love Maureen’s imagination in this book. Many times while I was reading it I found myself smiling and wondering how she came up with everything in the book. Of course, as true to Maureen’s writing she can describe a setting like no one else. I always had a clear idea of where the characters were and their surroundings. The story moved along easily and I never really felt lost. The characters were well developed and I felt the same emotions that Aimee felt when she interacted with other characters or when she got herself into a little trouble.
The relationship between Zak and Aimee was believable and was true to their characters throughout. I get excited about young love and that is what we saw with these two. They were two lost souls from two different worlds that found each other in space of all places. The book takes you back to what it felt like to be the odd man out in high school (or anytime really) and not know where you fit. Zak and Aimee found that they fit with each other.
