Holy smokes! I am am so in love with Promise Me You by Marina Adair. The story was so unique and had me experiencing so many emotions and feelings while I was flipping pages as fast as I could. Adair writes a captivating romance between two people that couldn’t be in more different places in their lives. The icing on top was Mackenzie’s dog Muttley. It was just so good.

Hunter and Mackenzie have been friends for awhile. They wrote songs together and have the same love of the music industry. She has also been in love with Hunter forever. Unfortunately, when the story begins, he is going to marry someone else. Fast forward a few years and the two meet up again after not seeing each other. Hunter is expecting to pick up where they left off but little does he know that Mackenzie’s life is very different than it was before.

I really enjoyed Mackenzie’s personal journey as it was so outside of what I know. I can’t imagine being in her shoes. I found myself aching for her at times when she was frustrated and feeling defeated. I loved watching Hunter learn Mackenzie’s world and what he could do to support and help her.  Adair writes the romance and intimate scenes between the Hunter and Mackenzie so perfectly for the story and the characters.

If you are looking for a fantastic contemporary romance story to read, give Promise Me You a try. The writing is smooth, the story moves along at a great pace, the romance is sexy, and you will be left with so much hope and love.

If you are looking for a fun, flirty, quick romance, give Unhitched by Jamie Farrell a try. This is a great story about a couple who did the whole Vegas marriage only to part ways shortly after, assuming they were legally divorced. Ten years later, Tarra realizes the divorce didn’t get filed so she takes the papers to Ben, her husband she hasn’t seen in ten years.

Farrell writes an engaging story from start to finish from the dialogue between the characters to the romance and chemistry between the stars of the book, and Tarra’s wacky family back in Bliss. It is all fantastic!

If you haven’t read a book by Farrell yet, give Unhitched a read to get a taste of her writing! If you already love Farrell’s books, you must add this one to your list!

Review: GOING ALL IN by Amy Manemann

Going All In by Amy Manemann is a sweet small town romance with some very sexy scenes that will have you wishing you were one of the characters.

Tucker and Hadley are high school sweethearts who parted ways when it came to college. Tucker couldn’t wait to leave and start his career as a lawyer and Hadley has no intentions of leaving Saddle Creek.

Fast forward ten years and Tucker is back to help out his family and realizes how much he misses Hadley. As Tucker and Hadley make up for lost time and remember what it is like to be together, the chemistry that was once between the two heats up again.

Manemann writes a solid story with lovable characters that just makes you feel good and smile. Tucker’s brothers and Hadley’s sisters are a fun addition to Going All In. They provide the family dynamics that always provide additional entertainment to stories like these. Throw in a few fun grandmas and you will find yourself smiling when turn that last page.

Review & Giveaway: DIRTIEST LITTLE SECRET by Skye Jordan

Don’t you just love picking up a book by an author you love and diving into one of their stories? Skye Jordan is an auto-read author for me because I know every story she writes will be filled with emotion, smart characters, and freaking hot sex. Such is the case with Dirtiest Little Secret. So good.

Ava is looking for a good time. She was recently betrayed, feels like she is living in a cage made by her parents, and is just not enjoying her current life. Ready to step outside her carefully erected ivory tower, Ava visits a rough biker bar looking for something. She finds it alright. In the sexy Isaac. She is in for quite an experience with him.

Jordan delivers an engaging story in Dirtiest Little Secret where you find yourself immersed in the characters’ lives and living things out along with them. Not only do Isaac and Ava have explosive chemistry in the bedroom but also outside. They enjoy each others’ company and are a great match for each other intellectually. It’s just too bad that Isaac has to go and mess things up by withholding the fact that he remembers her from his childhood but she has no clue. Tsk, tsk, Isaac. I am siding with Ava on that one.

With all good romance stories, though, there is a happy ever after in Dirtiest Little Secret. This book is a quick read so and I found myself reading it from start to finish in no time at all. It was tough to put down and the pacing just flowed so well. So beware that when you pick it up, you will want to have plenty of time to finish it!

Skye’s New York Times bestselling novels are all about enjoying that little wild streak we all have, but probably don’t let out often enough. About those fantasies we usually don’t get the opportunity to indulge. About stretching limits, checking out the dark side, playing naughty and maybe even acting a little wicked. They’re about escape and fun and pleasure and romance. And, yes, even love, because Skye is ultimately a romantic at heart and a happily ever after kinda gal. Skye also writes romantic suspense as Joan Swan, weaving fast paced novels of passion, danger and suspense.

Skye is a California native recently transplanted to the East Coast and living in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside Washington DC with her husband of 25 years. She has two grown daughters in college in Colorado and Oregon. In her free time she loves rowing on the Potomac. She’s always learning, attending courses and seminars in art and history and cooking.

She is his fantasy…

Ava Jennings has spent her life dedicated to her family’s steel business. So when she catches her fiancé engaging in extracurricular activities under his desk with a coworker, Ava fires him on the spot. With her self-esteem at an all-time low, Ava throws caution to the wind and heads to a well-known, wild biker bar. She’s determined to prove she’s capable of the spontaneous, wicked-hot sex her fiancé was searching for outside their relationship. And she finds all that and more in a rugged, edgy motorcycle mechanic, the one man in the bar who eclipses all the others.

He’s her dirtiest little secret…

Isaac Banks doesn’t talk to members of the Steel Warriors motorcycle club about his painful past. All they know is he’s the best bike mechanic in the state, which is exactly how he likes it. Ava doesn’t recognize him as the awkward kid who used to spend Sunday nights at her dinner table with their families, but she’s sure interested in the man she thinks he is now. She’s from the world he left behind, and he knows he should walk away—but it’s impossible to say no to the woman who starred in all his adolescent fantasies. All he wants is one night to get her out of his system. Because there was no way she could live up to his dreams.

But he’s wrong. One night will never be enough.

Barbara Vey Reader Appreciation Weekend 2017 Recap

Candy and I (Amy) attended the Barbara Vey Reader Appreciation Weekend in Milwaukee in April 2017 and had such a great time! Candy recaps the event below…

Candy and Amy with their Veytini’s – the official drink of BVW2017!

Candy with Sharon Sala

Ever since attending the inaugural Penned Con in 2014, Amy and I have kept an eye out for another Midwestern event.  Last summer Amy suggested that we go to the Barbara Vey Reader Appreciation Weekend  (BVW for short), an event she had been to before.  I agreed not really knowing anything about the convention.

The unique aspect of BVW is that you buy tickets to have lunch and/or breakfast with an author.  The tables are kept to seven readers at each table so you can really interact with the author of your choice. Tickets go extremely fast, especially for the more well known authors.  Amy and I planned out who we wanted to sit with and then anxiously stayed up until after midnight on the release day to purchase our tickets.  We were both lucky enough to get the authors we wanted for both lunch and dinner.

Even though my job requires that I interact with strangers all day long, as an introvert the idea of a huge event makes me nervous.  Amy and I even picked different authors so there was an added layer of apprehension knowing I would need surrounded by people I didn’t know. Before I let my anxiety get the best of me, I reminded myself that I would most likely be seated with fellow introverts and the most important thing of all is that we were all bookworms.

Candy with Alyssa Day

Friday we arrived early enough to attend the Q & A session. This was an introduction to all of the authors in attendance, a lot of whom I didn’t know. Vey and her amazing volunteers provided a handy list of the authors with space to make notes, which I thought was a nice touch.

For lunch on Saturday, I had a ticket to sit at Sharon Sala’s table.  I have been reading Sala for years and was downright giddy that I would be sitting at her table. I just hoped I didn’t fan girl too much. Sharon was a delight to meet. She asked about our everyday lives and the conversation at the table ranged from her early days in publishing to Native American folklore.  Sharon was a very warm and gracious hostess and I definitely won’t forget meeting her.

One of the things I didn’t really comprehend about the event was the tables. I figured we would get a book from the author and that would be it. Oh no! These authors went all out with elaborate themes and numerous gifts for their readers  (Sharon had a baking theme to tie in with her current series).

Amy with Skye Jordan

Following the lunch, there was a book signing session with all of the authors. One of the things you have to do at a signing of this size is  to formulate a plan on who you want autographs from. I made sure to visit Skye Jordan, Kimberly Kincaid, Helen Kay Dimon , and Sharon Hamilton. All four authors were awesome and each spent several minutes talking with me before moving on to the next reader.

The final event of the weekend was the breakfast.  I had tickets to sit with Alyssa Day, another author that I had been reading for years. Alyssa greeted everyone at her table with a hug as if we had all been friends for years. Alyssa has a great sense of humor and was very sweet. This is another meeting that I won’t forget either.

If you ever have a chance to go to a convention, I would highly recommend it. There is nothing like meeting your favorite authors or being surrounded by fellow bookworms who understand your passion for reading.  I personally hope that I can make a return visit to BVW in the future.
